Before our convocation ceremonies in February, VIU Chancellor Chief Shawn Atleo had some time to sit down with us and discuss the importance of education in Canadian society, and particularly in First Nations communities.
VIU has an excellent theatre program that has produced many great shows on campus. Students learn technical skills as well as theatre history and acting skills in a very hands-on, fun and interactive environment.
VIU’s automotive program is the oldest program of its kind in British Columbia. Students in the program start out with the basics and learn everything they need to get a good start in the industry. The program’s facility is run as a live automotive shop, so students gain experience working on newer cars and interacting with the customers.
Our VIU Mariners women’s volleyball team won the CCAA National Championship this year, which was hosted at Vancouver Island University. The Mariners defeated the Mount Royal Cougars in the championship match 3-1, avenging their heartbreaking loss to the Cougars in the final last year. In this video, team captain Tamara Rosenlund shares her experiences as a Mariner athlete and talks about what it felt like to win the championship.
